Kill Policy

Overview

Like the historical German Air Forces of the First and Second World Wars, the JG1 cybersquadron has very strict rules regarding the confirmation of aerial and ground victory claims.  In order for a victory claim to be counted towards an official JG1 Kill Board, JG1 guidelines state that the following standards must be kept:

1.  The participating JG1 pilot must be either a full member of the squadron or a probationary member who is currently within HARDLOOK.

2.  The mission flown by the JG1 pilot must be held within the context of a Stabapproved tournament or event.

3.  The mission flown by the JG1 pilot must be “full switch” (i.e. 100% realism) and “deadisdead,” where everyone within the event has one pilot life per night.

In addition, all JG1 members should be aware of the following directives, which are designed to clarify the victory claim approval process:

Regarding Confirmed Kills

An official kill is a combat victory, either air-to-air or air-to-ground, which has been verified through the accepted chain of command.

A confirmed kill is always counted towards a pilot streak.

Regarding Unconfirmed Kills

An unconfirmed kill is a combat victory, either air-to-air or air-to-ground, which has not been (or cannot be) verified through the accepted chain of command.

Unconfirmed kills hold no weight and do not count towards a pilot streak.

Regarding Pilot Streaks, Capture and Pilot Death

The JG1 cyber-squadron uses a “streak and bank” system with regards to confirmed kills.  Each JG1 member has a pilot streak, which represents a pilot’s virtual life.  If the JG1 pilot stays alive and outside of enemy capture, all of their confirmed kills will count towards one of the JG1 Kill Boards, and may potentially help them earn in-squadron awards and decorations.

A pilot streak ends upon virtual death (KIA) or virtual capture (POW).  With virtual death or capture, all confirmed aerial or ground victories are wiped away and the JG1 pilot must start over again from zero.

The Stab will still accept combat claims for the last sortie flown on the now-ended streak.  Those victories will be the last kills counted before the pilot’s stats are zeroed out.

All achieved awards and decorations from that now-ended streak are permanently banked by the JG1 pilot for retention.

Regarding Aerial Victories

An aerial victory is a shoot-down of an enemy aircraft in combat by a single JG1 pilot.  An aerial victory must be an air-to-air victory, and the enemy’s destruction should involve player-controlled weapons fire of some form.

An enemy aircraft shot down by AI tail gunners or an AI WSO / RIO (Weapon Systems Officer / Radar Intercept Officer) is counted as an aerial victory for the JG1 pilot.  Any aerial victory credited to human-controlled tail gunners or WSO / RIOs are also counted as an aerial victory for the JG1 pilot, as it is considered a team effort with the consistent member being the pilot.  Human-controlled tail gunners and WSO / RIOs cannot claim aerial victories within JG1.

Strafing and destroying a grounded enemy aircraft will not count as an aerial victory.  It is a ground victory.

Aerial ramming, often called a taran (таран) attack, does not count as an aerial victory. Nor do maneuver kills, where a pilot intentionally uses his aircraft to force an enemy to crash, thereby running him out of the sky.

The Stab reserves the right at all times to decide what an aerial victory is and what it is not.

Any JG 1 pilot who receives 5 or more confirmed aerial victories within one streak is considered a flying ace (Experten or Fliegerass).

Regarding Ground Victories

A ground victory is the destruction of any type of enemy ground target within combat by a single pilot. It must be air-to-ground and the enemy’s destruction should involve player-controlled weapons fire of some form (e.g. strafing, bombing, rocket attacks, etc.).  Embedded map objects found within various sims are not considered viable targets for any JG1 Kill Board, and thus will not count.

An enemy ground unit destroyed by AI tail gunners or an AI WSO / RIO (Weapon Systems Officer / Radar Intercept Officer) is counted as a ground victory for the JG1 pilot.  Any ground victory credited to human-controlled tail gunners or WSO / RIOs are also counted as a ground victory for the JG1 pilot, as it is considered a team effort with the consistent member being the pilot.  Human-controlled tail gunners and WSO / RIOs cannot claim ground victories within JG1.

The Stab reserves the right at all times to decide what a ground victory is and what it is not.

One Pilot – One Kill

There are no shared victories within JG1.

If more than one pilot claims the same kill, those pilots shall settle who receives credit.

If settlement cannot be reached, and the victory still remains undecided, the kill shall be awarded to the Staffel, Gruppe or Geschwader – whichever unit encompasses all pilots involved in the dispute.

No Witness = No Kill

Without proper proof, the Stab will not accept a combat claim, regardless of the status or rank of the pilot in question.

Proper proof for a victory only comes through verification from server stats, a witnessing member of JG1, a witnessing pilot from another squadron, or the downed enemy pilot themselves.

All kills that are not verified through these means are considered unconfirmed and hold no weight.

No Report = No Kill / End of Streak

At the conclusion of an organized mission or event, all participating JG1 pilots are requested to fill out an After Actions Review (AAR) within the appropriate area of the JG1 website.  Even captured or dead pilots are encouraged to fill out an AAR.

This process should happen within 48 hours of the conclusion of the mission or event.

Failure to submit an AAR will result in the JG1 pilot being listed as Missing in Action (MIA) for that mission.  Being listed as MIA will end any pilot streak that this JG1 pilot may have, zeroing his victories out.
